Many high school students take national college application tests such as the ACT that includes test sections in English, match, reading, and science. Out of a total possible 36 points, Indian River County students in Vero Beach High School (19.9) , Sebastian River High School (19.7) and Charter High school (21.04) all scored higher than the (19.5) state average scores. Charter scored higher than the national (21) average. The slightly higher scores this year are even more gratifying because more Indian River County students took the ACT test in 2010 than 2009. The ACT is also used as an alternative to the Florida FCAT that is now required for graduation.
